The Lady Rams will compete in the women’s 5K run while the Rams will take part in the men’s 8K run. The Lady Rams will head to the championship seeking their third straight team title behind a strong crop of newcomers this season. Heading into Thursday’s meet, the Lady Rams have been led by four different runners in five meets this season with senior JuaShanna Kelly leading the team twice. For the season, Kelly has posted the top individual times for the Lady Rams with a 19:29.71 at the Catawba Invitational. Senior Tyrah Winfrey, a member of both of the Lady Rams’ CIAA championship teams, added a 20:21.59 in the event as well. The Rams will head into the meet behind the strong running of senior Andrew Chebii, who has won the last two CIAA individual cross country championships. This season, Chebii has not run an 8K, but has run the second best CIAA time of the season with a 16:20.10 at the Third Annual Wilbur Ross Invitational. Chebii ran a 16:35.90 at the Wake Med Soccer Park earlier this season when he competed in the Adidas Invitational. The Lady Rams will kick things off when the women’s teams compete at 10:00 a.m. while the men are scheduled for an 11:00 a.m. start. April 17, 2012 WSSU Rams Dispatch Lincoln Tigers; Set For CIAA Championships The Winston-Salem State university Rams Baseball Team wrapped up the CIAA ‘s regular season title with a 25-2 whitewashing of Lincoln University of Pennsylvania on Sunday morning. Winston-Salem State University traveled to West Chester, Pa this past weekend and took two of three from the Lincoln University Tigers. The WSSU Rams improved to 31-17 overall, and 15-3 in the CIAA. Lincoln University falls to 6-23 overall and 4-14 in the CIAA. The Rams dropped game one on Saturday, 3-1, before running roughshod over the Tigers in the next two games. WSSU outscored Lincoln University 37-2 in the final two games of the weekend series, including a 25-2 whitewashing in the final game. The red-hot Rams had seven players to hit over .400 over the weekend, with German Reyes (2B, R/R, 6-2, 205, Jr, San Pedro De Macoris, DR), topping the heap swinging his bat at a .571 clip. Reyes was 8 for 14 with three home runs, three doubles and six runs scored, while driving in eight. Reyes went 5 for 7 with seven rbi and four runs scored in the 25-2 win over Lincoln. Brandon Harrison (CF, R/R, 6-0, 170, Jr, Kernersville, NC) and Dominque Fitzgerald (OF, R/R, 6-0, 190, Jr, Danville, VA) each batted .500 with Harrison going 6 for 12 with two doubles, two rbi, and four runs scored, while Fitzgerald went 5 for 10 with two home runs, one double and three runs scored. WSSU, the defending CIAA Champions, will be the top seed in this week’s 2012 Spring Championships - Baseball Tourney. Chowan finished the season in second at 14-4 in the CIAA, while Virginia State finished 12-6 and St. Augustine’s rounded out the top half with a 10-8 conference mark. Winston-Salem State will face off with Virginia State at 10:00am on Thursday at Virginia State’s Whaley Colbert Field.
