WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (2-0) needed just two wins to claim their first shutout win of the season when the team took a 2-0 victory over the Limestone Saints (2-5), Saturday afternoon. The Rams combined some tough defense with some power hitting to claim their second straight victory.
The Rams needed their strong defensive effort as runs were hard to come by for both teams. The Rams and the Saint combined for just seven hits in the game with WSSU totaling four hits in the game. Junior designated hitter Cole Parks powered the Rams to the win as he went one-for-two at the plate with a two-run home run being the sole scoring hit of the game. Redshirt-sophomore centerfielder E.P. Reese added a two-for-four batting effort with a run scored.
The only score of the game came in the sixth inning when Parks hit his two-run home run to score Reese and gave the Rams a 2-0 lead that the team held on to for the victory.
WSSU sophomore Jalen Scott (1-0) took the pitching win. He got the start and went eight innings and allowed no runs on three hits and he added nine strikeouts with only one walk. Senior Tomas Goco came in for an inning and recorded a strikeout with just one walk.
With the win, the Rams improve to 2-0 on the season. The team will return to action, tomorrow, to close out the weekend series against the Saints at 1:00 p.m.
