WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (9-0) continued their best start since the program's revival when they took a 9-2 win over the Davis & Elkins Senators (0-4), Sunday afternoon. The Rams put on a great defensive performance to claim the win as they held the Senators to just two runs in the game.
The Rams also had a great performance at the plate. As a team, the Rams totaled 10 hits and benefitted from a pair of Senator errors. WSSU junior Cole Parks had the best performance with a two-for-four batting performance with a home run and four RBI. Freshman Nick Ward added a two-for-two batting effort with two RBI.
WSSU did the bulk of its damage early with three runs in first and second innings respectively. The team added two more fourth inning runs and one in the fifth inning to claim the win.
WSSU sophomore Tyrese Hearst (2-0) got the pitching win. He started the game and went five full innings. He finished the game with no runs allowed on one hit with seven strikeouts. Senior Tomas Goco came in for the final two innings. He finished the game with two runs allowed (two earned) with a strikeout.
With the win, the Rams improve to 9-0 overall. The team will hit the road for their next action as they will head to Kannapolis, N.C. to face the Queens (N.C.) Royals, Wednesday evening.
