CHARLOTTE, NC – The expectations will be high as the Winston-Salem State Rams were picked to finish fifth in the 2018-19 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Men's Basketball Preseason Rankings. The team is also predicted to finish second in the CIAA Southern Division as well. Under the guidance of a new head coach and an experienced team, there is reason for a lot of optimism about the 2018-19 edition of the Rams.
After finishing the 2017-18 season with a 5-22 overall record and a 3-13 record in CIAA play, the Rams will enter a new era under the guidance of head coach Cleo Hill, Jr. Leading the way for the Rams will be the duo of senior forward William Crandell and junior guard Robert Colon as the duo was named to the 2018-19 PreSeason All-CIAA Team.
Friday's honor marks the third time that Crandell has been named to the team as he returns as the team's leading scorer from last season. He finished last season 17.7 points per game with a season high of 28 points at Lees-McRae last season to rank fourth in the CIAA in scoring. He also ranked fifth in the CIAA pulling in 7.4 rebounds per game. The honor is the first for Colon who finished last season as the team's second leading scorer at 15.9 points per game with a season-high 29 points in a non-conference game against Elizabeth City State.
The Rams will open the 2018-19 season on the road when the team heads to Elizabeth City, N.C. to take on the Elizabeth City State Vikings in a non-conference match up.
