In addition to being inducted into the hall of fame, his iconic #60 jersey was retired as well.

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Winston-Salem State offensive line coach Lawrence Kershaw was selected to participate in the 2019 NCAA and NFL Coaches Academy. Kershaw and other participants will take part in one of the premier learning and networking events of the year. The academy will provide an opportunity for participants to expand their knowledge and insight into the world of collegiate football coaching.
WINSTON-SALEM, NC – There is no doubt about this ballot as Winston-Salem State University junior defensive back Daryus Skinner was named the Hero Sports D2 Defensive Player of the Year. He earned the honor after totaling 1,261 votes (27.65%) in the Hero Sports Annual D2 Defensive Player of the Year Poll.
MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Winston-Salem State University senior running back Kerrion Moore accepted an invitation to participate in the 2018 D1 FCS Senior Scout Bowl. The bowl will serve as a showcase for Moore and around 80 other participants in the game.
MIAMI, FL – After a fantastic career, Winston-Salem State University defensive lineman Tyron Roberts received and accepted an invitation to the 2018 Podyum All-Star Bowl in Miami, Fla. Roberts will participate in a showcase for athletes seeking to continue their playing careers at the professional levels.
CLEVELAND, OH – Winston-Salem State University junior free safety Daryus Skinner was rewarded for a spectacular season when he was honored with a spot on the 2018 Division II Conference Commissioners Association (CCA) All-Super Region 2 Football Team. Skinner earned second team honors after proving to be one of the top defensive backs in the nation.
FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Winston-Salem State University freshman tight end Johnathan T. Gilmore lost his life in a car accident this weekend in Fayetteville, N.C. Johnathan planned to major in business and was a member of WSSU’s football team.
CHARLOTTE, NC – After a hard-fought 2018 season, five Winston-Salem State Rams were honored for their efforts when the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) announced its all-conference team. The Rams had two student-athletes to earn first team All-CIAA honors while a trio of Rams earned second team honors.
CHARLOTTE, NC – Winston-Salem State University freshman quarterback Dominique Graves was honored for a terrific freshman season when he earned a spot on the CIAA’s All-Rookie Team. After becoming the Rams’ starting quarterback midway through the season, the freshman was honored for a great season.
CHARLOTTE, NC – After their best performance of the season, the honors came rolling in for the Winston-Salem State Rams as senior running back Kerrion Moore, freshman quarterback Dominique Graves, and junior free safety Daryus Skinner earned weekly honors from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA). Moore was honored as the CIAA Offensive Back of the Week while Graves was named the CIAA Quarterback of the Week and Skinner was honored as the CIAA Defensive Back of the Week.
FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (5-4, 4-2 CIAA) closed the 2018 regular season in dominating fashion when the team took a 51-21 win over the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division champion Fayetteville State Broncos (6-2, 5-1 CIAA), Saturday afternoon at Luther “Nick” Geralds Stadium on the campus of Fayetteville State University.
ATLANTA, GA - Winston-Salem State University football great Timmy Newsome will be honored for his prestigious career as he was selected for induction into the Black College Football Hall of Fame(BCFHOF). He will be a member of the 10th class of inductees.
DURHAM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (4-4, 3-2 CIAA) gave a tremendous effort, but it was not enough as the team took a hard-fought 26-21 loss to the Shaw Bears (4-4, 3-2 CIAA), Saturday. After scoreless first half left the Rams trailing, 14-0, WSSU scored 21 second half points, but the effort was not enough as a late Shaw touchdown gave the Rams the hard-fought loss.

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (3-3, 2-2 CIAA) clicked on all cylinders when the team took an impressive 36-6 win over the Saint Augustine's Falcons (2-4, 2-2 CIAA), Saturday afternoon. The Rams combined for 419 yards of total offense with a defense that only allowed 244 yards and six points to claim a key Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) victory.
CHARLOTTE, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (2-3, 1-2 CIAA) clicked on all cylinders when the team took a 34-14 road win over the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls (2-3, 1-2 CIAA), Saturday afternoon. The Rams defense forced four turnovers and totaled 387 yards of total offense to claim a win in their Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division opener.
CHARLOTTE, NC – Winston-Salem State junior cornerback Tyrell Flemming was honored as the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Defensive Back of the Week. He earned the honor after a terrific week for the Rams against Bowie State and the top ranked passing attack in the CIAA.
BOWIE, MD – The Winston-Salem State Rams (1-3, 0-2 CIAA) took a gut wrenching 20-17 loss to the Bowie State Bulldogs (4-1, 2-0 CIAA), Saturday afternoon. After taking a 17-12 lead into the final minutes of the game, the Rams fell victim to a dramatic late drive by the Bulldogs who scored with just 1:14 left to play to take their first road loss of the season. “We had a solid game plan,” WSSU head football coach Kienus Boulware said. ”It just expired. We just ran out of time.”
WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (1-2, 0-1 CIAA) showed a lot of fight, but the team could not overcome the Virginia Union Panthers (2-1, 1-0 CIAA) who handed WSSU a 27-19 loss, Saturday evening. After struggling early in the match, the Rams bounced back for a solid second half effort in the hard-fought loss.
WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (1-1) will make their 2018 national broadcast debut this weekend when the team hosts the Virginia Union Panthers (1-1) in a 6:00 p.m. game at Bowman Gray Stadium. There will be a bit of extra attention when the Rams and the Panthers hit the gridiron as the game will be broadcast on ESPN3 as a part of the Division II Showcase.
