WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Winston-Salem State University golf team finished seventh this weekend at the Savannah State University Fall Golf Invitational played at Crosswinds Golf Club in Savannah, Ga.
Winston-Salem State finished with a two day total of 658, to finish 60 shots behind the winner, Bethune-Cookman, who won the event with a score of 599 while Texas-Pan American was second with a score of 625 followed by SSU who shot 630.
WSSU's Glendon Mabe finished tied for 22nd, as the Rams top finisher. Wes Griswold finished tied for 27th; James Draper finished tied for 30th; Zach Cheets finished tied for 34; and Michael Asbury finished tied for 50th.
The Rams shot 320 on day one, when Glendon Mabe shot an opening round of 73 to sit tied for second place. But WSSU faultered on day two, shooting a 388 to fall back in the standings. Wes Griswold shot an 81 to record the Rams best score on day two of the tournament.
Joseph Molina and Emanuel Petrich of Bethune-Cookman and Jake Barge of Fayetteville State each shot 147, although Molina was declared the winner of tournament with low medalist honors.
