Rams Open 25th Minority Golf Championship with Solid Effort

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL - The Winston-Salem State Rams golf team got off to a solid start in their final tournament of the season as the team placed fifth among NCAA Division II teams at the 25th PGA Minority Golf Championship. The Rams gave a solid effort against some top competition under high winds to open play in their final tournament of the season.

The Rams opened the tournament with a first day total of 328 (+40) to place fifth among NCAA Division II teams from defending Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) champion Virginia State, the tournament leader, fellow CIAA team Lincoln (Pa.), Morehouse, and Fayetteville State.

WSSU freshman Zachary Sheets led the way for the Rams on the opening day with a 79 (+7). Sophomore Glendon Mabe, who is returning after a hand injury, had the second best day for the Rams with an 81.
