Rams Tennis Tops VSU to Advance to 2012 CIAA Men's Tennis Finals

PETERSBURG, VA – The Winston-Salem State Rams (15-11) tennis team had to battle past a great Virginia State team for a 5-3 win to reach the finals of the 2012 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Men's Tennis Championship Tournament. WSSU sophomore Nick John clinched the win when he took a singles win to seal the victory.

The Rams opened things with a pair of doubles wins as the duo of Leandro Imaz and Jonathan Aubrey combined for an 8-4 win at #2 doubles while the tandem of Drew Dunzweiler and Nick John took an 8-6 win.

With the 2-1 lead after doubles, the Rams took a pair of singles losses to fall into a 3-3 tie, but Imaz took a 6-1, 7-5 win at #1 singles and set the stage for Nick John's 2-6, 6-2, 10-4 win to seal the match.
