John Martin joined the Winston-Salem State coaching staff this winter as head coach of the men's and women's tennis teams. Martin joins the WSSU coaching staff with a wealth of experience and poised to lead the Rams and Lady Rams tennis programs to new heights.

Prior to joining the WSSU coaching staff, Martin spent many years tennis professional at several local country clubs and guided the development of many quality players. Martin served as the tennis professional at the Brooklawn Country Club, Century Country Club, and Quaker Ridge Country Club. He also spent time as the tennis professional at Forsyth Country Club and was the Head Junior Pro at Holly Tree Racquet Club.

Martin's experience isn't limited to individual development as he spent a season as the tennis coach at East Surry High School in Pilot Mountain, N.C. where he guided the girls team to a #13 ranking in the state.

As a player, Martin enjoyed a solid career as a Varsity Division I player. He also earned a spot in the USTA Team Tennis.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina-Wilmington in 2003.
