Rams Take 7-2 Win Over Johnson C. Smith; Match vs. Shaw Suspended Due to Inclement Weather

RALEIGH, NC - The Winston-Salem State Rams (13-10, 10-1 CIAA) stayed strong in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play with a 7-2 win over the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls, Saturday morning. With the win, the Rams remain in second place in the CIAA men's tennis standings with a shot at first place when the team takes on the Shaw Bears. However, the team's showdown will have to wait as Saturday's match was postponed due to inclement weather.
The Rams jumped out early with three straight wins in doubles play, 8-3, 8-6, and 8-0. The team kept things going in singles play with four singles match wins. Senior Brian Coxton took a 6-4, 6-3 win while fellow senior Ian Hunter took a 6-0, 6-1 win. Senior Maximilian Glodde took a 6-1, 6-2 win while freshman Chris Jeter took home a shutout 6-0, 6-0 win.
With the win, the Rams improve to 10-1 in the CIAA and remain in second place in the conference. The team will need a win over the Bears to move into a tie for first place.
