Rams, Lady Rams Distance Stands Out at 2011 Liberty Kick Off

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Winston-Salem State Rams and Lady Rams indoor track & field teams had a solid outing on the second day of the 2011 Liberty Kick at the Tolsma Indoor Facility. The Rams and Lady Rams middle distance runners stood out against some of the top NCAA Division I and Division II opponents in the southeast with junior Andrew Chebii winning the men's 800m run while fellow junior Manuela Rigaud won the women's 3000m run.

Both the Rams and Lady Rams gave great efforts at the meet. While Chebii and Rigaud took first place honors, they had to beat out their own team mates for the top spots. Chebii won the men's 800m run with a 1:59.58 to edge out senior Desmond Wiggan finished a close second with a 1:00.89. Likewise, the Lady Rams dominated the women's 3000m run with junior Manuela Rigaud winning the women's 3000m run with an 11:52.57 while fellow junior Tyrah Winfrey finished a close 12:06.34.  Sophomore Brittney Killebrew added  a great finish in the women's 800m run, placing second in the event with a 2:19.79.

Though the Rams and Lady Rams distance runners took the spotlight, there were several noteworthy efforts by the Rams and Lady Rams sprinters. The Lady Rams sprint relay teams gave a great efforts, placing second and third in the women's 4x400m relay. The Lady Rams 'A' team placed second with a 3:59.66 while the Lady Rams 'B' team finished third with a 4:09.59.
