March 13, 2011

ALBUQUERQUE, NM - The Winston-Salem State Rams and Lady Rams gave a solid effort at the 2011 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championships, Saturday with WSSU junior Andrew Chebii and redshirt-freshman Dedricka Thomas posting strong results at the meet.

After qualifying for the finals of the men's 800m run, Chebii recorded a 1:57.26 to finish ninth in the event. Thomas also had a solid day with an 11.50m (37' 8.75") in the women's triple jump to place 12th in the event. The efforts were great for the Rams and Lady Rams who were the first in WSSU history to compete at the national championships.

"I am grateful that these student-athletes got to compete at the national level and got a taste of what the next level of competition feels like," WSSU men's and women's track & field head coach Inez Turner said.

With the effort, the Rams and Lady Rams close out the 2011 indoor track & field season and will open the outdoor season close to home when the team takes part in the Wake Forest Open in Winston-Salem, N.C.
