Rams in Second Place After Opening Day of 2011 CIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship

PETERSBURG, VA - The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams found themselves in a familiar spot after the opening day of the 2011 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Rogers Stadium on the campus of Virginia State University, Friday. When the first day of events were done, the Lady Rams were in first place with a team total of 43 points. Not to be outdone, the Rams also had a great effort as the team placed second after the first day of competition with 38 points.

The Lady Rams are currently 10 points ahead of Bowie State in their hunt for the 2011 CIAA title while the Rams trail the Saint Augustine's Falcons who scored 52.5 total points.

Making things even more impressive for the Lady Rams, the team remains in first place despite not posting an individual winner at the meet. WSSU junior Andrew Chebii won the finals of the men's 1500m run with a 4:05.85.

The 2011 CIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships will conclude tomorrow, April 23rd. The meet will get underway at 9:00am with the men's javelin trials and finals.
