Chebii wins 28th Annual Greensboro Cross Country Invitational

GREENSBORO, NC – For the second time in his career, Winston-Salem State University junior Andrew Chebii won the 28th Annual Greensboro Cross Country Invitational at Hagan Stone Park in nearby Greensboro, N.C. Both the Winston-Salem State Rams and Lady Rams cross country teams had stellar outings at the meet with the Rams finished third among the collegiate teams while the Lady Rams finished the meet ranked fourth at the meet.

Chebii led a strong effort by the Rams who placed three runners in the top 20 of the event. Chebii won the 8K meet for the second time in his career with a 26:46.13 at the meet. He last won the meet during the 2009 season. Joining Chebii in the top 20 was senior Desmond Wiggan with a 12thplaced finish in 28:44.55 while fellow senior Aaron Barnes added a 15th-place finish with a 28:53.15.

The Lady Rams had a solid day with five runners placing in the top 30 of the event and placing fourth among the collegiate teams. WSSU junior Manuela Rigaud led the way for the Lady Rams, finishing 18th with a 21.43.18 at the event. Senior Ashley Lawson had a great outing, placing 20th with a 21:45.38 at the meet.

The Rams and Lady Rams will return to action next weekend when they take part in one of the most historic cross country events in the nation, the Great American Cross Country Festival. The Rams and Lady Rams will have teams in the Race of Champions, Friday, as well as the HBCU Challenge on Saturday.
