Rams, Lady Rams Keep Running Strong at 27th Annual Greensboro Cross Country Invitational

GREENSBORO, NC - The Winston-Salem State Rams and Lady Rams cross country teams kept their impressive efforts going with some dynamic performances at the 27th Annual Greensboro Cross Country Invitational. Both the Rams and Lady Rams saw a number of personal records and strong finishes at the event.

As a team, the Rams placed second among all NCAA Division II opponents at the meet with 48 points, while Concord University took the top spot. For the second straight week, the Rams were able to best all the other Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) teams at the event leaving Saint Augustine's, Shaw, and Fayetteville State behind them. Leading the way for the Rams was sophomore Andrew Chebii who placed second in the event with a 26:00.5. The placing marked the second straight season that Chebii placed in the top two of the meet as he won the 26th Annual Greensboro Cross Country Invitational. Also impressive was junior Desmond Wiggan, who edged fellow Ram junior Aaron Barnes for 12th place at the event. Wiggan posted a 27:49.8 at the event. Barnes finished two seconds behind Wiggan.

The Lady Rams also had a strong effort in the women's 5K run with freshman Brittney Killebrew leading the way for the team. The Lady Rams placed second among NCAA Division II teams with 63 points in the event. Killebrew led the effort for the Lady Rams with a fourth place finish. She posted a 20:04.7 while sophomore Manuela Rigaud added a 14th place finish with a 20:25.3 at the event.

The Rams and Lady Rams will return to action on October 2nd when the teams take part in the HBCU Challenge at the Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary, N.C.
