WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Winston-Salem State Rams and Lady Rams cross country teams dominated the Inaugural Wilbur Ross Invitational as both teams took wins in their divisions, Saturday morning. After hosting their first home cross country meet since the 2004 season, the Rams and Lady Rams made themselves a home in first place with six top five finishes between the two teams.
WSSU sophomore Andrew Chebii led the way for the Rams when he crushed the rest of the field in the men's 8K run. Chebii won the meet with a 00:23:28 in the event, nearly a full minute ahead of the second place runner. The junior duo of Desmond Wiggan and Aaron Barnes took second and third place respectively in the event to round out the top three. Wiggan took second place with a 0:24:23 while Barnes added a 0:24:30.
In the women's division, it was freshman Brittney Killebrew who led the way for the Lady Rams. She won the women's 5K run with a 00:19:56 in the event. Sophomore Manuela Rigaud added a strong second place showing with a 00:21:05. Sophomore Tyrah Winfrey rounded out the top five of the women's 5K with a 00:22:09. She led a quartet of Lady Rams who took fifth through eighth place in the event.
Following the event, the Rams and Lady Rams will have a bit of a break before the teams compete in the 2010 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Championship at the WakeMed Soccer Complex in Cary, North Carolina on October 21st.
