  • Third-Seeded Rams' Season Ends With 83-65 Loss to Second Seeded Virginia State

    CHARLOTTE, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (14-13) had a great 2017-18 season, but unfortunately, it came to an end when the team took an 83-65 loss to the second-seeded Virginia State Trojans (23-4) in the quarterfinal round of the 2018 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament. The Rams gave a great effort in the game, but a slow start proved to cost the team too much as they took the hard-fought loss.

    CHARLOTTE, NC – The third-seeded Winston-Salem State Rams (14-12) got the 2018 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament underway with a dominating 87-67 win over the sixth-seeded Elizabeth City Vikings (9-20), Tuesday afternoon. The Rams took the win behind a dominating interior performance by the team’s senior front court.
  • Tate Earns Second Straight All-CIAA Selection; Johnson named to CIAA All-Rookie Team

    CHARLOTTE, NC – The Winston-Salem State University duo of senior center Kandace Tate and freshman guard Teara Johnson will need to make room on their trophy cases, Monday. For the second straight season, Tate was selected for the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) All-Conference team while Johnson was selected for the CIAA All-Rookie team.

    CHARLOTTE, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams will begin their quest for the 2018 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Women’s Basketball Championship, Tuesday when the #3 Rams take on the #6 Elizabeth City State Vikings, Tuesday afternoon at Bojangle’s Coliseum. The Rams earned their spot in the tournament after finishing the regular season in third place in the CIAA Southern Division.

    WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (13-12, 8-8 CIAA) made the plays that they needed to make when the team took an 82-77 overtime win over the Livingstone Blue Bears (6-20, 1-15 CIAA), Saturday afternoon. The Rams took the win by maintain their composure to outscore the Blue Bears 13-7 in the overtime period and snapped a two-game skid.

    FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (12-11, 7-7 CIAA) played a tough game, but some critical mistakes late cost the team in a 61-58 road loss to the Fayetteville State Broncos (14-9, 9-5 CIAA). The Rams held a late lead in the game, but the team had some costly miscues that cost them dearly in a classic game between the two top teams in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division.
  • Rams Fend Off Shaw for 81-73 Win Over Shaw Lady Bears

    WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (11-10, 6-6 CIAA) needed to click on all cylinders to claim an 81-73 win over the Shaw Lady Bears (5-20, 2-11 CIAA). The Rams broke out early to take the lead and never looked back. The Rams had one of the top first quarters of the game with 29 first quarter points and from there, the team fended off an aggressive attack from the Lady Bears.

    RALEIGH, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (11-10, 6-6 CIAA) staged a big fourth quarter comeback to claim their third straight Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division win when the team took a 66-63 road win over the Saint Augustine’s Falcons (6-15, 3-9 CIAA), Wednesday evening. After trailing, 42-40 heading into the fourth quarter, the Rams staged a late rally, outscoring the Falcons, 26-21 in the fourth quarter to claim the win.

    SALISBURY, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (10-10, 5-6 CIAA) utilized a balanced attack to claim a key 83-72 road win over the Livingstone Blue Bears (5-16, 0-11 CIAA), Saturday. The Rams took the win behind a balanced scoring attack with four players getting double-digit scoring in the game.

After claiming an early lead, the Rams made several clutch plays in the final minutes to take the key division victory.

    WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (8-10, 3-6 CIAA) could find no answers when the team took a 93-59 loss to the Fayetteville State Broncos (7-9, 3-5 CIAA), Wednesday evening. With first place in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division on the line, the Rams fell short in the loss to the Broncos. The Rams struggled at both ends of the court as the team scored just 59 points in the game, the team’s third lowest scoring effort of the season and allowed 93 points to the Broncos.
  • Scorching Hot Rams Torch Shaw Lady Bears in 108-73 Road Win

    RALEIGH, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (8-9, 3-5 CIAA) put on one of their best performances of the season when the team took a dominating 108-73 road win over the Shaw Lady Bears (5-14, 2-5 CIAA). The Rams put on an offensive clinic to take the win with their highest scoring effort of the season and scored at least 100 points for the second straight game.

For the third time in their last five games, the Rams reached the century mark with 100 points in the game. The team combined the effort with a strong defensive performance to claim the victory.

    ELIZABETH CITY, NC  - The Winston-Salem State Rams (6-9, 1-5 CIAA) were held in check when the team took a tough 65-46 road loss to the Elizabeth City State Lady Vikings (7-6, 1-2 CIAA), Monday evening. After scoring 101 points, Saturday, the Rams were held to just 46 points in their final game of a three-game Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Northern Division road trip.

    MURFREESBORO, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (6-8, 1-3 CIAA) bounced back in a big way to take a 101-96 overtime road win over the Chowan Lady Hawks (11-3, 3-1 CIAA), Saturday afternoon. The Rams took the win behind a pair of dominating performances from senior center Kandace Tate and junior forward Brionna Pate as the two combined to score 66 of the Rams points in the win.

    WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (5-7) had a spectacular effort with the team took an historic 103-81 win over the West Virginia State Yellowjackets (3-9), Sunday afternoon. The Rams’ 103 points were the most that the team scored since 2003 and gave the team a tremendous end to 2017. The Rams last scored 100 points in a 2012 win at Saint Augustine’s and the team scored 116 points in a 2003 win over Bennett College.

    WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (4-7, 0-3 CIAA) had a strong first half, but the team fell short late in an 81-64 loss to the Bowie State Bulldogs (8-3, 1-1 CIAA) in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) game, Monday afternoon. After controlling the first half of play, the Rams faded in the second half as Bowie State pulled away to claim the victory.

    WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (3-6, 0-2 CIAA) gave a strong effort, but the team could not overcome some miscues in a 75-66 loss to the Lincoln (Pa.) Lions, Saturday afternoon. The Rams played a strong defensive game, but the team found points hard to come by against a tough Lions defensive effort in the game.

The Rams held the lead for much of the game, but a second half surge from the Panthers put the game out of reach for the Rams and gave the team a loss in their Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) opener.

After spending much of the game staying slightly ahead of the Panthers, the Rams pulled away late to pull away with their second straight victory.

The game turned out to be a see-saw effort for the Rams with the team showing signs of great potential, but foul troubles and turnovers in critical moments proved costly in the hard-fought loss.
