WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State University Department of Athletics makes service to the local community one of its primary priorities and that showed when the department collected over 450 lbs. in non-perishable food items and school supplies at the Winston-Salem State/Claflin women's and men's basketball doubleheader last Friday.
The donations were accepted in place of game admission tickets for the first home Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) game of the season for both teams. When asked, the Ram family of fans and supporters responded in a big way with over 450 lbs. of donations of non-perishable food items and school supplies.
The collected donations will be distributed to elementary schools in the Winston-Salem, N.C. area as well as the Winston-Salem State University Food Bank.
The Rams will return to action, Thursday when the teams take on the Virginia State Trojans. The tipoff for the women's game will at 5:30 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. tipoff scheduled for the men's game.
