WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (14-9, 10-4 CIAA) took a big 72-54 win over the Saint Augustine's Falcons (3-19, 2-13 CIAA), Saturday afternoon. The Rams took the win behind a balanced offensive attack with four players reaching double-digit scoring in the game.
As a team, the Rams put on a stellar shooting performance. The Rams shot a scorching hot 50.9% (27-of-53) from the floor while holding the Falcons to shooting just 36.1% (22-of-61) from the floor. WSSU senior forward Brionna Pate led the way for the Rams with a double-double 16 points with 11 rebounds in just 31 minutes. Junior guard Jahlia Williams hit three three-pointers to add 12 points off the bench. The freshman duo of Hailey Gipson and Kyree Hall both added 10 points each as well.
The Rams dominated each quarter of the game, especially in the first quarter when the team outscored the Falcons 23-15. From there, both teams added some strong defensive efforts. The Rams allowed just 10 points in the second and third quarters to head into the fourth quarter with a 52-35 lead. In the fourth quarter, both teams came out scoring, but the Rams outscored the Falcons 20-19 to roll to the 72-54 win.
With the win, the Rams improve to 14-9 overall and 10-4 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play. The team also improves to 7-1 in CIAA Southern Division play and remain in a tie for first place in the division. The Rams will return to action, Wednesday, when they head to Raleigh, N.C. to take on the Shaw Lady Bears.
