Lady Rams Ranked Eighth After Opening Day of CIAA Championships

DURHAM, NC - The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams opened the 2011 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Bowling Championships at the AMF Bowling Lanes in Durham, N.C. with a 2-4 record in team match play and earned an eighth-placed seeding. The Lady Rams picked up a pair of wins, but had some late struggles on the opening day of the tournament.
For the day, the Lady Rams totaled 4,247 total pins with a 707.68 average and ranked eighth among the 13 teams competing. The team opened the day with a loss to Elizabeth City State, but bounced back for a win over Virginia State. The team followed the effort with a loss to Chowan, but picked up a win over Virginia Union. The Lady Rams closed the day on a down note with back-to-back losses to Livingstone and Bowie State.
Sophomore Miranda Day had the best day for the Lady Rams with 1,030 total pins and a 171.67 average. She finished ranked 10th individually and earned All-CIAA honors for her efforts.
The Lady Rams will go on to compete in Baker games play and will begin the double-elimination tournament for the 2011 CIAA Championship, Sunday. As the eighth-seed, the Lady Rams will open the day against the top-seeded Fayetteville State Lady Broncos.
