Lane, Hilliard-Gray Earn CIAA Weekly Honors

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – The Winston-Salem State University softball team earned a pair of Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) honors, Monday when WSSU junior pitcher Brittany Lane was named the CIAA Pitcher of the Week while WSSU head coach Lataya Hilliard-Gray was named the CIAA Coach of the Week after the Lady Rams took a pair of CIAA Southern Division wins last week.

Lane, a native of Virginia Beach, Va., earned the honor after leading the Lady Rams to a clutch 2-0 CIAA Southern Division win over Fayetteville State. She pitched all seven innings of the game, allowing just one hit against the Lady Broncos. She had a perfect game going until a fifth-inning walk and just one seventh-inning hit in the game.

Hilliard-Gray took home the CIAA Coach of the Week honor after leading the Lady Rams to a pair of CIAA Southern Division wins. She led the team to a 13-1 win as well as a 1-0 win. The Lady Rams’ doubleheader at Saint Augustine’s was postponed. Currently, the Lady Rams are 18-16 overall, 9-1 in the CIAA and a perfect 4-0 in the CIAA Southern Division.
