WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (2-5) took a tough 10-3 loss to the Brevard College Tornados (9-9), Wednesday afternoon at Paul Cloud Field at Twin City Complex. The Lady Rams had a solid overall effort in the game, but a big fourth inning effort by the Tornados left the Lady Rams with the loss.
As a team, the Lady Rams managed five hits in the game, but were hampered by three fielding errors. The team also had a tough effort with a hard-hitting Brevard team that totaled 10 hits in the game, including a pair of home runs. WSSU freshman infielder Jada Johnson led the way for the Lady Rams with a two-for-four effort at the plate with two RBI while junior infielder Monet Daly added a one-for-two performance at the plate with a double, a run scored, and an RBI.
After allowing three runs to the Tornados in the first inning, the Lady Rams responded with a pair of first inning runs of their own. Daly hit an RBI double that scored senior outfielder Tanaya Pettus. She then scored right away when freshman infielder Jada Johnson hit an RBI single that gave the Lady Rams a pair of first inning runs. After falling behind, 10-2 after a seven-inning fourth inning by the Tornados, the Lady Rams kept the game alive in the fifth inning when Johnson drove in Pettus once again. However, the effort was all that the Lady Rams could manage as the team finished the day with the tough loss.
The two teams would go on to complete the doubleheader later in the day. For more information on Lady Rams softball, contact the WSSU Office of Athletic Media Relations at (336) 750-2143 or log on to www.WSSURams.com.
