HICKORY, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (4-10) took a tough 8-0 loss at Lenoir-Rhyne (18-5), Thursday afternoon. Though the team gave a strong effort, the Lady Rams couldn't find hits in the road loss.
The Lady Rams had a solid defensive game negated by some offensive struggles. As a team, the Lady Rams were held to just one hit in the loss. Senior designated player Monet Daly scored the sole WSSU hit of the game.
Things got tough early for the Lady Rams when Lenoir-Rhyne recorded five first-inning runs in the game. From there, the Lady Rams would turn on their defensive efforts as they held the Bears to two third-inning runs and one more sixth-inning run that ended the game.
WSSU sophomore pitcher Chyna Riley (0-4) took the pitching loss with three hits allowed and three earned runs. Freshman Katherine Zimmer added an inning in the circle with two earned runs on two hits. From there, sophomore Mercedes Hargett added four and one third innings.
