WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (10-15, 6-2 CIAA) couldn't find their way when the team took an 8-0 loss to the Fayetteville State Lady Broncos (10-6, 6-2 CIAA), Sunday. The Lady Rams came up short offensively when they were outhit 11-5 by the Lady Broncos in the loss.
After some solid early defense, the Lady Rams fell victim to a late surge by the Lady Broncos in the loss. The Lady Rams kept things close early after they allowed two runs each in the first and second innings to fall behind, 4-0. However, the team allowed four fifth-inning runs to take the 8-0 fifth-inning loss.
As a team, the Lady Rams managed five hits in the game. Sophomore pitcher Chyna Riley led the way with a two-for-three performance at the plate. Three more Lady Rams managed one hit each.
Riley (1-6) took the pitching loss with two innings of action and four runs allowed (three earned). Sophomore Katherine Zimmer added two and one thirds innings pitching with four earned runs allowed on six hits with a walk. Sophomore Mercedes Hargett added two-thirds innings pitched with one hit allowed.
With the loss, the Lady Rams fall to 10-15 overall and 6-2 in CIAA play. The team also falls to 1-1 in CIAA Southern Division play. The Lady Rams will return to action, Friday when the team heads to nearby Salisbury, N.C. to take on Livingstone. The team will return home, Saturday for a doubleheader against Anderson (S.C.).
