Rams Take 8-6 Win Over Mansfield

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (2-6) definitely packed their offense when the team took an impressive 8-6 win over the Mansfield Mounties (1-2) at the Snowbird Tournament in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The Rams scored eight runs in the win, including scoring at least one run in six of the seven innings played in the game.

As a team, the Rams notched eight runs on 11 total hits in the game. WSSU sophomore outfielder Katherine Zimmer led the way for the Rams with a three-for-four effort at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI. Freshman short stop Jasmine Holloman added two-for-four effort at the plate with two runs scored.

The Rams opened the game on fire with at least one run scored in the first five innings of the game. The team struck with one run each in the first and second innings, before adding two runs each in the third and fourth innings. The team also added a fifth-inning run and capped the game with a seventh inning run. It was a first inning RBI pop up to first base that opened the scoring for the Rams, followed by a second inning RBI single from freshman second base Destiny Snipes. Junior third base Mercedes HArgett added an RBI double followed by an RBI single from freshman Rebecca Demko in the third inning. The Rams allowed a third inning run and three fourth inning runs to the Mounties to leave the score 6-4 after the fourth inning. Sophomore outfielder Anna Marino added an RBI groundout in the fifth inning to give the Rams a score in their fifth straight inning. The Rams rounded out their scoring in the seventh inning with an RBI groundout from junior pitcher Chyna Riley before two seventh inning scores from the Mounties left the Rams with the 8-6 victory.

Riley (2-1) picked up the pitching win, going three innings with three runs (two earned) allowed and two strikeouts. Hargett came in for four innings with three runs allowed (three earned) and four strikeouts.
