  • Snipes Earns First Team NCCSIA All-State Team Honors

    GREENSBORO, NC – Winston-Salem State sophomore designated hitter Destiny Snipes earned yet another post-season honor when she was named to the 2017 North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) College Division All-State team. The honor was the third post-season honor for her as she also earned Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) First Team All-Conference honors as well as the Conference Commissioner’s Association (CCA) Atlantic All-Region/District 2 team.

    WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Winston-Salem State designated player Destiny Snipes earned another honor after a great season in 2017. After leading the Rams offense for much of the season, she was named to the 2017 Conference Commissioner’s Association (CCA) NCAA Division II All-Atlantic Region/District 2 team. This marked the second straight season that she earned the honor after some stellar performances at the plate.

The first contest (Bowie State University vs. Johnson C. Smith University) will begin at 12:30 p.m.
  • Seventh Inning Rally Lifts the Rams in 10-5 Win Over Saint Augustine's

    PETERSBURG, VA – The Winston-Salem State Rams (16-30) broke out for a seventh-inning rally to claim a 10-5 win over the Saint Augustine’s Falcons (16-14) in the elimination round of the 2017 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Softball Championship Tournament. The Rams scored seven runs in the final inning of the game to secure the victory and remained in contention to defend their conference championship.

    PETERSBURG, VA – The Winston-Salem State Rams (16-31) had their season ended, Friday when the team took a 10-2 loss to the Bowie State Bulldogs (21-19) in the elimination round of the 2017 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Softball Championship. The Rams gave a strong effort in the game, but the team struggled to find their offense and could not keep up with the high-powered Bowie State Bulldogs.

    PETERSBURG, VA – The Winston-Salem State Rams (14-30) showed a lot of fight, but the team came up just short in a 2-1 loss to the top-seeded Chowan Hawks (33-18) in the opening round of the 2017 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Softball Championship Tournament. The Rams pushed the top team in the conference to their very limits in the tough loss.

    PETERSBURG, VA – The Winston-Salem State Rams (15-30) took a key 6-2 win over the host Virginia State Trojans (12-23) in the elimination round of the 2017 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Softball Championship Tournament, Thursday afternoon. The Rams broke out with a strong offensive effort and benefitted from some VSU miscues to advance to the second day of the tournament.

    WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (14-29, 10-6 CIAA) closed the 2017 regular season in style when the team took an impressive 9-0 five-inning win over the Elizabeth City State Lady Vikings (3-26, 2-11 CIAA), Sunday afternoon. The win gave the Rams their third straight win to end the regular season and some momentum heading into the post-season.

The Rams combined some strong offense with some stellar defense to claim the five-inning shutout victory.

The Rams took the win behind a stellar offensive effort as they scored a combined 11 runs in just two innings of play.

    WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (10-27) staged a frantic seventh-inning rally, but the effort was not quite enough when the team took a hard-fought 8-2 loss to the King (Tenn.) Tornados (28-17), Tuesday evening. The Rams hit a pair of home runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the effort was not quite enough as the Rams took the tough loss.

Tornados (29-17), Tuesday evening. The Rams had some strong showings on both sides of the ball at times, but the team struggled to put it all together in the tough loss.

    SALISBURY, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (9-26) broke out for an 18-0 shutout road win over the Livingstone Lady Blue Bears (1-15, 0-10 CIAA), Sunday. The win was a key one for the Rams as the team picked up their second Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division win of the season. The Rams took the win behind a great overall effort as the team combined an overpowering offense with a shutdown defensive effort.

The Rams needed just eight hits to pick up the crucial win as the victory moved the Rams up one spot in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division.

Smith Golden Bulls (11-13, 5-5 CIAA). The Rams needed just two swings of the bat to take the win with all three runs coming on home runs.

The Rams had little trouble hitting the ball, but the Rams could not quite complete the comeback when the team took a hard-fought 8-5 loss to the Golden Bulls.

The Winston-Salem State Rams (7-22, 3-3 CIAA) gave a great effort, but the team could not match the firepower of an aggressive Fayetteville State Lady Broncos (12-12, 5-1 CIAA) in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division opener for both teams, Saturday. The Rams came up short in an offensive showdown between the two teams as the Rams and the Lady Broncos combined for 29 runs in the game.

The Rams gave a solid defensive effort and hit the ball well, but the runs didn’t get scored when the Rams took the tough loss.

WSSU senior pitcher Mercedes Hargett turned in a stellar pitching performance, throwing a one-hitter for the game, but the Rams could not get any runs across the plate as the team took the tough road loss.

The Rams took advantage of some Lincoln (Pa.) miscues to claim a big win in the early hours of Sunday morning.
