Rams Break Out for 11-4 Win at Mount Olive

MOUNT OLIVE, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (2-6) brought their offense with them when the team took a dominating 11-4 win over the Mount Olive Trojans (4-5), Thursday. The Rams put on an offensive show when the team turned 14 hits into a season-high 11 runs to take their first road victory of the season.

The Rams took their win behind one of their best offensive showings of the season. The Rams totaled 14 hits in the game, including home runs from senior pitcher Mercedes Hargett and sophomore centerfielder Destiny Snipes. Hargett led the way for the Rams, going two-for-four performance at the plate with a home run, a double, two runs scored, and three RBI. Snipes was also two-for-four at the plate with a home run, a run scored, and two RBI. Freshman short stop Daijah Chambers struck the most with three runs scored.

The Rams jumped out to an early lead and never looked back when they took the victory. It was Hargett who got things started with a two-run home run in the first inning. The Rams allowed a run in the first and second inning to let the game get tied 2-2 before Hargett hit an RBI double in the third inning, followed by a score by sophomore Jasmine Holloman and an RBI single from senior first base Katherine Zimmer that scored freshman designated player Sydnee Brown and kept the Rams on top, 6-2. The team allowed two more Mount Olive runs in the bottom of the third inning before scoring five unanswered runs, including a Snipes solo home run in the fourth inning, an RBI double and an RBI single from sophomore outfielder Tiarra Delaney, and an RBI single from senior third base Rebecca Demko. Snipes would add one more RBI in the seventh inning that capped the Rams' 11-4 victory.

Hargett  (2-1) took the pitching win, going all seven innings with four runs allowed (three earned) and five strikeouts.
