Rams to Open 2017 CIAA Softball Tournament, Thursday

CHARLOTTE, NC – After a grueling regular season, the Winston-Salem State Rams earned their spot in the 2017 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Softball Championship Tournament. The Rams will head to Petersburg, Va. after earning the #4 seed from the CIAA Southern Division. Looking to defend their CIAA championship, the Rams will have their work cut out for them when the team heads to Petersburg.

The road to the conference tournament was not an easy one, but the Rams persevered to a 14-29 overall record, including a 10-6 record in CIAA play. With a 6-4 record in CIAA Southern Division play, the Rams tied the Johnson C. Smith Lady Golden Bulls for third place in the division. The Lady Golden Bulls earned the #3 seed by run differential in the head-to-head match up with the Rams.

With the #4 seed, the Rams will open the tournament against the top-seeded Chowan Hawks, Thursday at noon. The 2017 tournament will begin where the 2016 tournament ended as the defending champion Rams take on the Hawks, the top seed from the CIAA Northern Division.

The first day of the tournament will be held at the Petersburg Sports Complex with the final two days taking place on the campus of Virginia State University.
