Rams Take 7-2 Loss to Kutztown at UNC Pembroke Invitational

PEMBROKE, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (0-3) knocked out seven hits, but the team could only plate two runs in a hard-fought 7-2 loss to the Kutztown Bears (1-2), Saturday, morning. The Rams had a solid day at the plate, but the team could not get their runs across the plate in the loss.

As a team, the Rams had a solid day at the plate, but the team struggled to keep up with the Bears. The Rams totaled seven hits in the game, including two hits and two RBI from senior designated player Samanta Gibbs. Junior center fielder Destiny Snipes added a pair of hits of her own.

The Rams opened the game with some solid defense, but the team's offense could not keep up the pace. After holding the Bears scoreless in the first inning, the Rams allowed a run in the second inning to fall behind, 0-1. The team grabbed its first lead when Gibbs hit a two-RBI single in the third inning to go ahead, 2-1. The WSSU offense went cold after that as the Bears heated up. The Rams allowed three fourth inning runs, two fifth inning runs, and a sixth inning run to finish the day with the 7-2 loss.

WSSU junior Erica Davis (0-2) took the pitching loss. She went 4.1 innings and allowed six runs (two earned) on nine hits. Freshman Tia Robinson came in for 2.2 innings and allowed one run (one earned) on three hits with three strikeouts.

With the loss, the Rams fall to 0-3 for the season. The Rams will return to action, Sunday when the team faces the Barton Bulldogs in their home opener. For more information on Rams softball, contact the WSSU Office of Athletic Media Relations at (336) 750-2143 or log on to www.WSSURams.com.
