WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (4-18) got back their winning ways, Friday, when the team took a dominating 9-0 win over the Bowie State Bulldogs (7-11). The Rams stayed hot to claim their first home win of the season and their fifth win in their last six games.
The Rams had a great performance on both offense and defense to claim the win. The Rams needed just eight hits to score the nine runs in the game while holding the Bulldogs to just three hits. WSSU senior designated player Samantha Gibbs led the way for the Rams with a two-for-three batting effort with two RBI. Junior Jasmine Holloman added a double with an RBI.
The game featured some big innings for the Rams as the team worked their way to the win. Junior Daijah Chambers broke the scoring seal when she scored on a BSU fielding error in the first inning. The second inning was a big one for the Rams with junior third base Kortney Thomas hit an RBI single to score senior catcher Tiara Delaney. Junior short stop Destiny Snipes hit an RBI single to score Marino and Gibbs rounded out the scoring with a two-RBI single to score Chambers and Snipes. The effort left the Rams ahead 5-0. The Rams returned to their scoring ways in the fourth inning whe junior Jasmine Holloman hit a RBI fielder's choice to score Snipes. The Rams also benefitted from a key error by the Bulldogs that allowed three runs to score and left the Rams with the 9-0 five-inning victory.
WSSU sophomore Erica Davis (3-8) took the pitching win. She started the game and went all five innings with no runs allowed on just three hits with four strikeouts.
With the win, the Rams improve to 4-18 on the season. The two teams would return to action later in the day to complete the doubleheader.
