WINSTON-SALEM, NC – After a hard-fought regular season, several members of the Winston-Salem State University softball earned were rewarded by being named to the 2018 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Softball All-Conference team and the 2018 CIAA Softball All-Rookie Team. Three Rams earned All-CIAA honors while two players earned All-Rookie honors.
Winston-Salem State placed three players on the CIAA All-Conference team. Rams senior designated player Samantha Gibbs earned first team All-CIAA honors. She finished the regular season with 21 runs batted in (RBI) and a .268 batting average with five home runs in spite of missing time due to injury. Junior outfielder Jasmine Holloman and sophomore utility Erica Davis both earned second team All-CIAA honors. Holloman finished the regular season with a .347 batting average with 27 RBI, three home runs, and 27 runs scored. Davis earned the honors after being one of the team's top players between batting, pitching, and fielding. She was the Rams' top pitcher, starting 20 games with a 60 strikeouts in 116.2 innings. She was also second on the team with a .400 batting average with 32 RBI and seven home runs.
The Rams also had a pair of players named to the CIAA All-Rookie team. Freshman outfielder Nyla Howard was one of the top players for the Rams. Serving as the team's primary leadoff batter, she finished the regular season with a .364 batting average with 29 runs scored, 10 stolen bases, and nine RBI. Freshman outfielder Destiny Middleton played in 21 games and finished the season with a .272 batting average with four stolen bases.
