Rams Take a 7-1 Loss to Top-Seeded Chowan Hawks at 2018 CIAA Softball Tournament

SALEM, VA – The Winston-Salem State Rams (13-25) struggled at the plate when the team took a 7-1 loss to the Chowan Hawks (30-14) in the second round of the 2018 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Softball Championship Tournament. The Rams could not quite get the runs they needed across the plate in the tough loss.

The Rams had some struggles at the plate in the tough loss. As a team, the Rams were held to just three hits in the game. Senior designate player Samantha Gibbs led the way with a two-for-three batting effort with a double and an RBI. She was the only WSSU player with multiple hits in the game.

The sole WSSU run of the game came in the seventh inning. It was Gibbs who hit an RBI double to score freshman pinch runner Destiny Middleton.

WSSU freshman Tia Robinson (4-12) took the pitching loss. She started the game and pitched five innings. She allowed three runs (three earned) on 10 hits with five strikeouts. Sophomore Erica Davis came in for an inning as well.

With the loss, the Rams fall to 13-25. The team now falls to the loser's bracket in the tournament and will face the Fayetteville State Broncos in a 5:00 p.m. game. The winner of the game will have a chance to advance to the championship game against the Chowan Hawks, tomorrow.
