COLUMBIA, SC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (16-3) broke out for one of their biggest wins of the season when the team took a dominating 14-2 road win over the Benedict Tigers (11-10), Thursday afternoon. The Rams hit five home runs in the game to claim the victory.
Big offense is becoming a hallmark of the Rams as the team reached double-digit runs for the ninth time this season. The Rams showed their power in the win with seven extra base hits in the game. Senior left fielder Destiny Snipes led the way for the Rams when she went three-for-four at the plate with a double, a triple, three runs scored, and an RBI in the win. Junior pitcher Erica Davis added a three-for-four performance of her own with a home run, two runs scored, and four RBI in the game. Senior catcher Kortney Thomas added a pair of home runs of her own.
Winston-Salem State got on the scoreboard early and held off the Tigers to claim the win. The Rams opened the game with five first inning runs and three second inning runs to take an 8-0 lead into the third inning. After a fourth inning run, the Rams broke out once again with five sixth inning runs to pull out the victory.
Davis (7-2) took the pitching win. She started the game and went all six innings with two runs allowed (one earned) on five hits with seven strikeouts.
