CHARLOTTE, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (18-3, 7-0 CIAA) kept their strong play going when the team took a 9-0 road win over the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls (4-9, 4-4 CIAA), Saturday afternoon. The Rams combined some great defense with some impressive offense to claim the victory.
As a team, the Rams were impressive overall. The team totaled eight hits in the game while holding the Golden Bulls scoreless and allowing just two hits. WSSU junior pitcher Erica Davis led the way for the Rams with a two-for-two batting performance with two runs scored and two RBI. Junior second base Daijah Chambers added a three-for-four batting performance with a run scored.
The Rams scored in four of the five innings played. The team struck in the first inning when freshmen Jasmine McCain hit an RBI sacrifice fly to drive in senior outfielder Destiny Snipes. Freshman Shauntaja Dedecker added a two-RBI single as well that left the Rams on top, 3-0. In the second inning, it was Davis doing the hitting as she hit a two-RBI single that left the Rams ahead, 5-0. Chambers broke things open with a bases-loaded three-RBI single in the third inning to leave the Rams on top, 8-0. McCain added her second RBI sacrifice fly in the fifth inning to round out the scoring.
Davis (8-2) got the pitching win. She started the game and threw all five innings. She finished the game with no runs allowed on just two hits with three strikeouts.
