CHARLOTTE, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (19-3, 8-0 CIAA) extended their winning streak to 10 games when the team took a 9-0 road win over the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls (4-10, 4-5 CIAA), Saturday afternoon. The Rams took the win behind a great offensive showing.
As a team, the Rams had a strong day at the plate. The team totaled 11 hits in the game with five extra-base hits. WSSU senior outfielder Destiny Snipes led the way when she went four-for-four at the plate with two doubles, a run scored, and four RBI. Junior designated player Erica Davis went three-for-four at the plate with a double, a run scored and an RBI.
The Rams scored in three of the five innings played in the win. The team got things started with a five-run first inning. Snipes got things started with an RBI single that was followed by an RBI fielder's choice from redshirt-freshman Jasmine McCain. The scoring was capped by an RBI groundout from senior catcher Kortney Thomas. Sophomore first base Tameron Taylor added a two-RBI double. The effort left the Rams with a 5-0 lead after the first inning of play. Davis hit an RBI single in the second inning to give the Rams a 6-0 lead. It was in the fifth inning when Snipes hit a bases-clearing three RBI double to give the Rams a 9-0 lead and sealed the win.
Sophomore Tia Robinson (10-1) got the pitching win. She started the game and went all five innings. She held the Golden Bulls scoreless on just four hits with two strikeouts.
With the win, the Rams improve to 19-3 overall and 9-0 in CIAA play. The team also improved to 2-0 in CIAA Southern Division play.
