Rams Take an 8-0 Loss to West Virginia State in Elimination Round of 2019 NCAA DII Atlantic Region Tournament

INSTITUTE, WV – The #7 Winston-Salem State Rams (33-13) ended their terrific season when the team took an 8-0 loss to the #2 West Virginia State Yellowjackets (34-15) in the elimination round of the 2019 NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Tournament. The loss ends an historic season for the Rams that saw the team reach new heights.

The loss came in spite of a solid overall game by the Rams. As a team, WSSU totaled five hits in the game, but the team was hampered by five errors in the loss. Junior second base Daijah Chambers led the way for the Rams with a two-for-three batting performance. The Rams also got hits from junior outfielder Shauntaja Dedecker, freshman third base Alleigh Himes, and senior Destiny Snipes.

The Rams allowed a hot start to the Yellowjackets and the team was never quite able to get into a scoring groove in the game. The team allowed five first inning runs to the Yellowjackets. The Rams also allowed a pair of second inning runs to fall behind 7-0. The Rams allowed one more fourth inning run to fall behind 8-0 heading into the fifth inning. WSSU was able to get a pair of fifth inning singles, but a two-out groundout with runners at first and second ended the game.

WSSU sophomore Tia Robinson (15-4) took the pitching loss. She threw four innings for the Rams with eight runs allowed (two earned) on seven hits with two strikeouts.

With the loss, the Rams finish the 2019 season with a 33-13 record and a #7 ranking in the 2019 NCAA Division II Atlantic Region, the highest in school history. For more information on Rams softball, contact the WSSU Office of Athletic Media Relations at (336) 750-2143 or log on to www.WSSURams.com.
