Lady Rams Break Out for a 19-1 Win Over Saint Augustine's

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (19-11, 12-1 CIAA) broke out their offense in a dominating 19-1 win over the Saint Augustine's Lady Falcons (0-23, 0-11 CIAA), Friday afternoon. The Lady Rams had an offensive breakout in the game with 14 total hits and 19 runs scored in the win.
After allowing Saint Augustine's to open the game with a 1-0 first inning lead, the Lady Rams scored 19 unanswered runs to close out the doubleheader sweep and pick up their ninth straight Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) win. The Lady Rams scored eight second inning runs and seven third inning runs before closing out the scoring with four fourth-inning runs.
WSSU senior infielder Kayla Woodbury led the way for the Lady Rams with a three-for-four effort at the plate with three runs scored and six RBI. She added two doubles and a home run in the game. Sophomore infielder Britney Cato added a three-for-four effort at the plate with an RBI, two runs scored, and a double.
Sophomore pitcher Tiffany Burgess (10-6) took the pitching win with five innings pitched and allowed just three hits. She also added seven strikeouts and only one walk.
