Box Score

HAMPTON, VA - The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (20-26) found a way to win Friday afternoon when the team held on for a 2-0 win over the Hampton Lady Pirates (28-16). The two teams combined for just five total hits in the game as the Lady Rams totaled four hits while holding the Lady Pirates, the top team in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Northern Division, to just one hit in the game.

WSSU junior pitcher Amber Shore (11-15) had a dominating pitching performance in the game, pitching all seven innings of the game and allowing just one hit en route to a seven-strikeout shutout performance. Shore also helped herself in the win, knocking out a seventh-inning home run of her own, one of just four hits by the Lady Rams. Lady Ram freshman shortstop Bonika Terry scored the only other run of the game in the fourth inning when fellow freshman Whitney Wright drove in on an RBI single.

Game two of Friday's doubleheader was canceled due to a late start to game one.

The Lady Rams will remain in Virginia when the team faces the Norfolk State Lady Spartans in a weekend series. The Lady Rams and Lady Spartans will square off in a Saturday doubleheader followed by a Sunday single game.
