Rams Open Home Court with 6-3 Win Over Averett

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (1-1) christened home court in a big way, Friday afternoon when the team took a 6-3 win over the Averett Cougars (2-3). The Rams controlled the match from beginning to end, taking a pair of wins in doubles play along with four singles wins.

The Rams opened the match in a big way with some great efforts in doubles play. The duo of senior Zakia Spencer and freshman Cylah Gaither set the tone with an 8-1 win at #3 doubles while senior Alexus Morgan and freshman China Brown added an 8-2 win at #2 doubles. The Rams would allow an 8-5 win to the Cougars at #1 doubles.

From there, the Rams closed things out with some stellar singles play. Junior Aja Grant set the tone with a 6-1, 6-0 win at #3 singles while freshman China Brown did the same at #4 singles. Senior Alexus Morgan added a 6-3, 6-1 win at #2 singles while freshman Cylah Gaither took the most thrilling win when she took a 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 10-2 win at #6 singles to close out the 6-3 win for the Rams.
