Rams Battle in 8-1 Loss to Shaw

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (6-7, 5-4 CIAA) fought hard, but the team fell short in a tough 8-1 loss to the Shaw Lady Bears (14-2, 10-1 CIAA), Sunday afternoon. The Rams played well in the match, but the team came up just short against the division leading Lady Bears.

The Rams got the day started with a great effort in doubles play. The Rams fell, 8-2 in both the #1 and #2 doubles, but took an 8-0 loss at #3 doubles.

The Rams were able to see a bright spot in singles play when junior Alexus Morgan took a 7-6 (7-1), 6-1 win at #2 singles. However, the team took losses at 6-0, 6-0 losses at #1 and #6 singles. The Rams also took a 6-3, 6-2 loss at #4 singles, a 6-2, 6-0 loss at #3 singles, and a 6-0, 6-1 loss at #5 singles.

With the loss, the Rams fall to 6-7 for the season and 5-4 in CIAA play. The loss was also the team's second CIAA Southern Division loss, dropping the Rams to second place at 3-2 in division play.
