SALISBURY, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (1-4, 1-1 CIAA) put on a dominant performance when the team took a 6-0 road win over the Livingstone Blue Bears (0-4, 0-3 CIAA), Thursday afternoon. The Rams got the win behind their best performance of the season.
The Rams kicked things off with a dominant performance in doubles play. The duo of sophomore Avion Harris and sophomore Tay'lor Champion got things started with an 8-0 win at #2 doubles before the freshman duo of Kyra Akande and Tamia Bennett took an 8-1 win at #3 doubles. Senior China Brown and freshman Kyrsten Jennelle rounded things out with a 5-3 win at #1 doubles.
After claiming a 3-0 lead heading into singles play, the Rams needed just three more wins to claim the victory. Champion got things started with a 6-0, 6-0 win at #1 singles before Harris added a 6-0, 6-0 win of her own at #3 singles and Brown closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win at #2 singles. The remaining singles matches remained unfinished.
With the win, the Rams improve to 1-4 overall and 1-1 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play. The Rams will return to action, Saturday when the team heads to Charlotte, N.C. to take on the Elizabeth City State Vikings and the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls.
