Five Winston-Salem State Student-Athletes Named to USTFCCCA All-Region Team
NEW ORLEANS, LA – The Winston-Salem State University men’s and women’s indoor track & field teams earned several honors when the United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its All-Region honorees for NCAA Division II. Five Winston-Salem State student-athletes were honored as members of the USTFCCCA All-Region team.
“We are definitely seeing growth in our program,” WSSU track & field head coach Inez Turner said. “Just a few weeks ago, our men’s cross country team topped the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Academic List and here we are a week later with five student-athletes earning regional honors.”
For the Rams, Winston-Salem State junior middle-distance runner Andrew Chebii and freshman sprinter Michael Neal were both honored as members of the USTFCCA All-Region team. Three Lady Rams earned region honors as senior sprinter Shanika Lamons, and sophomores Kristi Baptiste and Brittney Killebrew all earned region honors.
Neal and Lamons will both take part in the 2012 NCAA Division II Indoor Track& Field National Championship Meet this weekend.
