Lady Rams Hold On for Five-Set Win Over Saint Andrews
WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (12-9) had to dig deep to pick their sixth straight win as the team held on for a five-set win over the Saint Andrews Knights (2-20), Monday evening. After dominating their opponents in the first two sets, 25-16 and 25-17, the Lady Rams found themselves locked in a battle after dropping the next two sets, 25-11 and 25-20, but held on for a 15-10 win in the final set.
The Lady Rams took the win behind an inspired offensive effort as the team totaled 58 kills in the match. The team also featured some quality defensive performances with seven total team blocks. WSSU sophomore outside hitter Avoni Seymour led the way for the team with 21 kills and a block assist. Fellow junior Francesca Edgerton added 11 kills as well. Junior middle blocker De Ann Smith led the WSSU defensive effort with six blocks assists while freshman defensive specialist Brittany Rich added at team-high 14 digs.
The Lady Rams won't have long to rest as the team will take on the Fayetteville State Lady Broncos in a key Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) match-up, Tuesday evening.
