Lady Rams Close Out the Regular Season with 3-0 Win at Virginia State

ETTRICK, VA - The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (12-13, 12-6 CIAA) closed out the regular season on a high note with a three-set win road win over the Virginia State Lady Trojans (11-14, 11-8 CIAA). The Lady Rams used a dominating defense to shut down the Lady Trojans with a 25-21, 25-22, and 25-14 in the win.

WSSU senior middle blocker closed out her final regular season match in style with a dominating performance. She performed well in every aspect of the game with a team-high 12 kills, three digs, and a team-high four solo blocks in the match. Fellow senior Ashley Harris added a seven-kill performance in the match as well.

The Lady Rams got the match started on a high note as the team led the way for the entire first set of the match. The team jumped ahead by as many as five points, but had to hold off a late VSU rally to seal the victory. The second set of the match was a much closer affair as the two teams played to a 14-14 tie midway through the set. The two teams continued their battle late in the set with a 22-22 tie, but the team took advantage of a pair of VSU errors along with a kill by senior hitter Erica Cole to take the 25-22 win in the set.

In the final set, the Lady Rams returned to form to dominate the Lady Trojans in the final set and sealed the three-set victory. After battling to a 10-10 tie, the Lady Rams kicked things into gear, outscoring the home team 15-4 to close out the 25-14 third set win. The run included four WSSU service aces.

With the win, the Lady Rams complete the 2010 season with a 12-13 record and are currently in XXth place in the CIAA Southern Division. The 2010 CIAA Volleyball Championship tournament will begin on November 5th.
