Lady Rams to Host Campbell in Final Home Match of the Season

Nov. 7, 2007

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (4-23) will close the home volleyball schedule this season when the team hosts the Campbell Camels (10-19), Thursday evening. The Lady Rams will look to close home court with a bang when they host a Campbell squad that handed the team a 3-0 loss in Buies Creek to open the season.

The Lady Rams will look tom improve upon some recent struggles taking seven straight losses, including a tough 3-0 loss to the High Point Panthers, Tuesday evening that saw the team commit 19 reception errors, four more than their total kills in the match. For the season, the Lady Rams have a .110 attack percentage and have struggled to find kills with their opponents holding a 1,226-849 edge in total kills this season and have amassed 331 receiving errors this season.

The team will need to turn up its defensive efforts in order to top a Campbell team that has won two of its last four matches, including defeating North Carolina A&T, 3-1 on Tuesday evening. The WSSU front line will be up to the task with sophomore blocker Georgette Allen's 60 total blocks leading the way for the Lady Rams this season. Junior setter Valentina Pushkina leads the team in digs with 154 this season and will look to negate the Camels' high-powered attack that has totaled 1,219 kills this season.

Across the net from the Lady Rams will be the fearsome trio of junior middle blocker Femi Alabi (291), freshman Emily Werner (285), and fellow freshman Taylor Deering (224). For the season, the trio has amassed 800 total kills this season. The Lady Rams will have their hands full when they take on the Camels squad.

The two teams will tip off at 7:00 p.m. at the C.E. Gaines Center on the campus of Winston-Salem State University. Admission to the match is free.
