Lady Rams, Rams Combine for Three Top Ten Finishes at HBCU Challenge

CARY, NC - The Winston-Salem State cross country teams continued their impressive fall going as the team recorded some great performances at the HBCU Challenge at the Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary, N.C. The WSSU red and white populated the top ten finishes at the meet with three Rams and a Lady Ram runner all finishing in the top ten of the event.
For their efforts, the Rams placed second in the event with a team total of 81 points at the meet. The Rams left teams from Hampton, Bowie State and South Carolina State behind them. The Lady Rams recorded a fifth-place finish at the meet with 132 points.
The Rams had a stellar effort at the event with sophomore Andrew Chebii leading the way. Chebii placed fourth at the event behind a trio of Norfolk State runners. He recorded a 25:22.3 in the men's 8K run. WSSU junior Aaron Barnes joined Chebii in the top ten, placing ninth at the event with a 26:28.3. Fellow junior Desmond Wiggan placed just outside of the top ten with an 11th-place finish with a 26:42.0.
The Lady Rams would also enjoy a strong day at the event with freshman Brittney Killebrew leading the way. Killebrew finished seventh at the meet with a personal record 19:38. Junior Manuela Rigaud also added a 20:12.2 at the event.
The Rams and Lady Rams will run in some familiar territory as they return home to host the Inaugural Wilbur Ross Invitational 5K Run at Civitan Park in Winston-Salem, N.C.
