PERSONAL: History major…..born on 5/1/91…..son of Tim and Sara Markley……life goal after baseball is to be a teacher and coach baseball…..His most memorable sports moment is earning a save in game 1 of the CIAA conference tournament and winning the second conference championship game right after to help the Rams claim the CIAA conference title and a berth to the NCAA Atlantic Regional…..favorite thing about the WSSU baseball program is it’s team unity and sense of belonging.
COACH RITSCHE ON MARKLEY: “John is a gamer and one of the biggest competitors on our team. You can watch his heart beat in his chest from the dugout. He had an outstanding season for us last year as a sophomore. He bounced back and forth between our closer and a starter. He was our “go-to” guy late in the season and in the CIAA tournament. No start was bigger than the second championship game against St. Augustine’s College where he arguably had the best day in Ram’s pitching history. With the addition of newcomers to the pitching staff, John will most likely transition out of the closer role and into a full-time starter. However, we will still go to him in key situations if we have to.”
