WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- Rafael Gonzalez hit a bases clearing triple in the top of the ninth inning to propel the WSSU Rams to a 7-5 come from behind victory in an elimination game in the Atlantic Regional of the NCAA DII Baseball Championships.

With the win the Rams move to 39-12 overall and keep their postseason hopes of reaching the DII College World Series in Cary, NC alive.  The loss ends Concord University's season at 36-20.

Winston-Salem State got on the scoreboard first, after a Travis Moore single, he stole second based, and two pitches later stole third base.  German Reyes hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Moore to giv eth Rams the early advantage.

Concord University battled back with a solo home run off the bat of Joey Miller in the second inning to tie the game at 1-1.

WSSU would come back with a run in the third, as German Reyes singled, and then scored on a double down the left field line from Aaron Jones.

The Mountain Lions were not going to go away easy, and in the bottom of the third Jacob Mays hit s two out solo home run to tie the game at 2-2.

The Rams would retake the lead in the fourth inning when Rafael Gonzalez scored on a throwing error by the CU catcher, and took a two run lead in the fifth when Brandon Harrison scored on a double by Levi Grassley.

Ryan Johnston would pull the Mountain Lions back to even with the Rams, when he took the first pitch he saw at the at-bat, deep overt the left field wall for a two run home run. CU would take the lead over WSSU in the seventh on an rbi single.

With the game and season on the line, the Rams were down to their final at-bats when the magic began. First, Travis Moore singled to the left side and was promptly moved to second with a sacrifice bunt from Brandon Harrison. German Reyes singled and Aaron Jones was intentionally walked. And with two outs and the bases loaded, Rafael Gonzalez hit a ball deep into the left center gap, clearing the bases and giving WSSU a 7-5 advantage heading to the ninth inning.

The Rams JR Wright sat down Concord 1-2-3 in the final inning to secure the win for WSSU.

German Reyes was two for three with two runs scored and a run batted in, and Rafael Gonzalez finished two for five with one run scored and three huge rbi.  Aaron Jones was one for four with a run scored and a run batted in, and Levi Grassley also had a rbi, and finished one for four.  Travis Moore was two for five with two runs scored.

Jordan Carlton pitched six innings, giving up eight hits and five earned runs before being relieved by JR Wright. Wright pitched the final three innings, giving up no hits, no runs and striking out four.

Winston-Salem State will face Shippensburg University at 2:30 p.m. in another elimination game at Gene Hooks Field at Wake Forest Ballpark in the NCAA Atlantic Regional.
