WEST CHESTER, PA - It may be early in the season, but the honors are already coming in for the Winston-Salem State Rams as two players earned weekly honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), Tuesday. WSSU junior second base Nick Williams was named the NCBWA Division II Atlantic Region Player of the Week while sophomore pitcher Cole Parks was named the NCBWA Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Week.
Williams earned the honor for his great efforts at the plate. He started in all four games of the week for the Rams with a .421 batting average. He went eight-for-13 at the plate with nine RBI. He also recorded five doubles with four stolen bases. Defensively, he also had five putouts with seven assists.
Parks was honored for his strong play on the mound. He pitched in two games for the week and went 2-0. He threw three innings to lead the Rams to a win over Wheeling Jesuit. He totaled four strikeouts with only one walk in the game. He got a start against Davis & Elkins when he went seven innings with no runs allowed on just two hits. He also recorded seven strikeouts with three walks.
