Glover Grand Slam Spark Rams in 8-5 Win Over Seton Hill

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (10-0) continued their hot start to the season with one of their biggest wins as they took an 8-5 win over the Seton Hill Griffins (0-1), Sunday afternoon. After taking a 4-1 deficit into the seventh inning, the Rams scored five runs in the inning and added two more in the eighth inning to claim the win.

The Rams overcame faced a great pitching performance by the Griffins, but the team broke out late to get some key runs late in the game. WSSU sophomore center fielder E.P. Reese went two-for-four at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI. Senior second base Nick Williams went two-for-five at the plate with two RBI. It was junior catcher Shannon Glover who stole the show as he hit a grand slam that sparked the Rams' late rally to claim the win.

Things looked tough early for the Rams as a strong Seton Hill pitching performance made runs hard to come by for the team. After the Rams allowed Griffin runs in the first and second innings, the Rams answered with a run from Reese, who scored on a Seton Hill fielding error. The Rams allowed the Griffins to score two more fifth inning runs to fall behind, 4-1. It was in the fifth inning that the Rams kicked things into gear in a big way with a grand slam home run to give the Rams their first lead of the game, 5-4. Freshman Nick Ward drew a bases-loaded walk to add to the WSSU lead, 6-4. Williams added a two-RBI single in the eighth inning to leave the Rams ahead 8-4 before the team held the Griffins to just one ninth inning run and sealed the 8-5 victory.

WSSU junior Parker Strader (2-0) took the pitching win for the Rams.  He came in for two innings and finished the game with no runs allowed with two strikeouts. Sophomore Cole Parks got the start and threw seven innings for the Rams He allowed five runs (three earned) on seven hits with eight strikeouts.
